What version of 68 Classifieds are you running?
Example: V4.1.2 Developer

What template are you using?

Just remove it from the admin layout template. Search for "versionmsg"

Yes but have you got a good reason for not upgrading? Quite a few things have been corrected and upgraded since 4.1.2

I have thought of that, but I am worried about some of the installed modules not working correctly.

How big was the upgrade?

Well if you are worried, test out an upgrade first on a subdomain which is a copy of your FTP space and database.
