Default Emails being sent to spam folder

What version of 68 Classifieds are you running?
Example: V4.2.1 Developer
What template are you using?
deepsea

Please describe in detail the issue you are having:

I am sure this has been discussed before, but I could not find this issue in the forum when I did a search.
I have gmail and it is the standard out of the box gmail account. I have not done anything to my spam filters. In testing the email functions of the script, I noticed many of the emails whether they be account activation, email a friend, report ad, etc are mostly going into my spam folder. Some get through.
I am sure this would happen to other users on my site with gmail. I have not tested hotmail, aol, or other email addresses. Is there anything that can be done to improve the chances of the emails getting through?

Thank you.

To get good advice for a question, then you need to provide good information. Without knowing any details of your setup, then how can anyone advise you?

If you said, I'm using "[email protected]" then we could say, "consider using a different email address!"

Generally speaking e-mail sent from a script (ie 68C) can be identified by mail servers and thus get sent to the spam bin. This is not specific to 68C but any and all scripts that send e-mail.

One way to minimize the chance mail from your script ends up in the spam bin is to set up 68C so that it uses smtp mail. Smtp requires authentication and has special headers so the receiving mail server knows that at least the sender was authenticated by the initiating mail sever.

Next, clearly state on your site during the registration phase to have people add the e-mail address (or simply your domain) to their "white list" so they dont miss any possible e-mails from your site.

Larry,
Thank you very much for the information. I was not using Smpt, but I'll configure it and use that instead.
I had already added a message in the registration phase for people to check their spam folders if they did not receive their activation email within a few minutes, but I'll include your suggestion about the white list as well.

Thanks again for the great tips and kind response.

Default update

Larry,
Changing to Smpt has allowed 100 percent of the emails I sent from the script to get through.
That did the trick.

Thank you.
