There is a mod at http://www.mods.auscity.com/clients/order.php called 'Price Descriptor Module' that achieves this. Here is the readme: http://www.mods.auscity.com/pdf/price_descriptor.pdf

Default Is this necessary?

Can advertisers not delete their own ad when sold - or am I missing something? Just wondered why this mod would be wanted - though adding "reduced" for example might be useful

Yes users can delete listings. I think some people want to keep listings so the sites looks more popular or shows other people that listings are actually being sold.

Most advertiser don't bother to delete their ads.

But they start contacting you to remove their ads when people still response to their expired ads.

If there is an option to post SOLD, they can do it themselves and you can still leave the ads on your site for content and seo purpose.
