Default Search, maps, and sold!

I read through the forums and played with the demo for the last few days and these are the final questions I have that are unanswered...

I have been through all the templates and live sites, and I have not seen any with the search boxes on the front page. Would I be able to put the zip code and keyword search on the front of the site if I buy the Designer version or do I need the Developer version to accomplish this? Or is it even possible? Any live sites with an example of this?

Is Google Map integration available yet as a mod? (anyone?!) Is this something that will be coming up in future releases?

SOLD! Is there a mod out there yet or is there a way to take off the 'delete' button and replace it with 'sold'? I would like my customer's ads to stay up for the duration of time that they paid for, but have the option of having a red 'sold' on the top so that people don't contact them about it again. (Gotta keep content!) I don't even mind the delete option being there, but sold is a neccessity.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Crystal.

Let me try to answer your questions.

You can place a search form on the home page or any other template you wish. The biggest thing is you just need to keep the form fields with the same name and always submit it to searchresults.php

I created a mod for yahoo maps so I am sure it is possible with google maps. However I haven't had the time to convert it over.

I believe mods.auscity.com has a mod that will mark a listing as sold. I am sure they will be around in a little while and can confirm this.

I wanted to do the same thing on my site. What I did was make an "extra field" named "Type of Sale". It is a dropdown box that has four items, one off which must be selected. The items that can be selected are:
  • Private Sale, No Trades
  • Dealer
  • Private Sale or Trade
  • SOLD! SOLD! SOLD!

After the item vehicle has sold, the site administrator or the seller can go back and change the "Type of Sale" to SOLD! SOLD! SOLD!

I went one step farther and modified the "Ad Reporting" module to allow visitors to the site that have found a vehicle has been sold to report it to the site administrator by clicking a link on the listing page. Then the administrator can mark it as SOLD! SOLD! SOLD!

You can see and example of what I mean buy clicking here.

hope this helps!

I am beta testing the Sold (Listing Status) mod now from mods.auscity.com It is a great mod and I like it a lot.
I believe it will be out soon. Some features described here.

Big Orange,

Can you not make a page in your admin that displays all the ads that have been sold? This way you will be able to remove them daily in one swoop and not rely on users. Im just thinking it might be confusing to a user if he/she sees an item is sold and then you want them to report it as sold.

Details (PDF) about the 'Price Descriptor' mod are here" http://www.mods.auscity.com/pdf/price_descriptor.pdf

To see 'SOLD' being used, check this site: http://www.eshopper.com.au - take particular note of 'search results' and 'popular', 'new' and 'featured' nav links.

If I understood Crystal right, the idea was to leave the ads online and mark them as sold. Not remove them. On my site, I want to leave them until the expiration date and let other sellers see that items are in fact being sold. This way the categories will be fuller and seeing items marked SOLD! will make potential sellers more likely to list. With the email link I am wanting users (site visitors) to contact me if they have contacted the seller and were told the item has been sold. That way I can change the status to sold and leave the ad online.

If I misunderstood Crystal I apologize for butting in.

Sorry BigO,

I guess it was me who got confused, you could put a statement in so the report as sold link doesnt appear once the item is marked as sold.

The Sold mode from mods.auscity.com has settings that allow you to keep the ad marked as sold on your site as long as you like, plus after listing has been removed from regular searches you could also keep that listing in sold only searches as long as you like.
With the small changes to the code you may remove ‘delete’ button from listings modification area and allow users to delete listings through sold option only. That way all listings will be marked sold before they deleted.

Great idea Maffo. I'll see if I can add that to my site. Thanks!
