Default Design website offline

Hello,

I have hosting with Bluehost and I want to be able to design my classifieds site offline in Bluehost and then once it is finished then I want to make it live, but not before it is totally tweaked and looked over to make sure it is exactly the way I want it.

I usually just work on my websites live but I don't think this is a good idea. Do you know the process I would have to go through to do this.

I am interested in the developer version.

That depends on what you actually mean by "offline". Typically offline means NOT on the server, but locally. In your post it sounds like you want to develop it on the server, but don't want to have it "publicly" viewed.

Doing localhost development would mean that you just need to have a localhost server environment setup on your computer and install the software script there. That is not any issue and is straight forward.

If you mean the latter, developing it on the server but blocked to the public then that is going to be dependent on how your hosting account and the servers for that account are setup and how strict you want to be in enforcing keeping the public out. In other words, that's not on the 68 Classified's script, it is about your server environment.

If you want to keep the files local you can use this software: Install PHP 5 Apache MySQL on Windows : WampServer.

The files are stored on your computer and no one will have access nor be able to view your files, although I am not sure if this software let's you connect it to a database. It's worth a try. I have used it before for php development and never had any problems with it.

Default Sounds good

Thanks to both of you for the answers!!!

When you say, 'develop it on the server, but don't want to have it "publicly" viewed.' - that is what I was asking. I will contact Bluehost and ask them more.

I will check out Wampserver too.

I guess it will be fairly easy to do, it is just figuring out my options and picking one.

I would look into xampp, its really user friendly and if you get stuck on anything like enabling the php.mailer function, a simple google search usually solves that problem.

apache friends xampp, its what I use on my local machine, and Ive never noticed it even slow it down in the slightest.

if you use anything like xampp, or wampserver, do not and I repeat do not open it to the public, or bypass your router firewall in any way. its a good way to lose data from the various little hacker bots that scour the net looking for vulnerabilities.

Keep a local dev machine exactly that, local. A lot of people get crazy and start fiddling around with opening it up for access remotely.
