Default Payment/Coupons mis-function

In Administration/Payment/Coupons & Discounts I selected "percentage" but program is still asking for "Number Available" -- Why? Percentage indicates a discount for all customers or products, not a few or particular number of products. I had to add a number or program would not save. Is this a bug? Variables being requested from the wrong place?

However, code is performing functionally, taking the proper percentage off purchases, during the period I requested. But will it stop working when it increments to "number available" ?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it will stop working once the number available is reached just as a flat dollar amount coupon works. The only difference between the two is one deducts a flat dollar amount and one deducts a percentage amount.

Thanks Mike for the straight answer. Do you fathom the reasoning behind this topsy-turvy logic?

Hmmm I can see if I was advertizing, "1st 100 people to sign up get 10%" but since it is date-officiated, why require a limit on number of products discounted?
What if I wanted to say, "10% off XXX for the next 150 days"? How would I know how many ? Tis crazy.

This is one of those things that has evolved due to user requests. For a while you have a date range, then someone wants a limited number so that gets added.

At the end of the day you can set the date range or the count to such an extreme that they wont even be an issue so I guess Im a bit confused as to why you have a problem with it?

If you want a date range and dont care about a limit, do 9999999 or some such silly thing. If you want a limit and dont care about a date range then set the expiration date somewhere out around the year 2999.

Exactly as Larry says. I too am confused by your interpretation as to how this works. This method gives you the best of both worlds.
