Default "Search All" on extra fields

This question may be related to a resolved thread: Extra Field and Search Options.

What version of 68 Classifieds are you running?
V4.1.10 Developer

What template are you using?
Default

Please describe in detail the issue you are having:
The forum threads show a fix was scheduled, and has apparently been released with 4.1.3, to resolve the issue with extra fields not defaulting to "Search All." I have the above version and have the same problem. What have I missed?

Thanks,
Roger

Sorry for stating the obvious but have you set default values in the definition of your extrafields in the admin control panel?

Thanks for responding. If by default values you mean are they set as searchable, then yes.

Are these extra fields that you created drop downs as in the thread you pointed to? That's what the bug and fix are referring to.

danth6961 has a spectacular aura about
Default My opinion

I see the same question being asked over and over about extra fireld being searchable. If I understand correctly what I believe everyone is asking for ends up being a change to the basic functionality of the code. Let me explain my reasoning.

If you create an extra field as "assign" it to every category the searchable extra field block doesn't show up until you select a category.

I think people want that extra field to show up by default and to be able to use that extra field to seach every category just like you can for the state field for example.

Here is my stupid example

I create extra field in admin panel called Color / Make it seachable / Assign it to every category

When I click on the search button that extra field to show up by default and I would be able to find everything everywhere that has the color "blue" for example.

Well that's how I see it, but I've be known to be blind.

Yes, they are drop down fields. The fields are for the category "Autos" only, and they show up when "In Category" is set to "Autos" but the default is "Please Select" forcing a choice. Would like for it to default to "Search All" and am unsure what it does to the search if no selection is made and "Please Select" is left unchanged.

I'm thinking that somewhere something didn't get uploaded/upgraded correctly, because It works correctly on any of my sites that are extra fields that are drop downs.

Sounds plausible. I'll try re-uploading and see what happens. Thanks for all the help.

Default Followup

Just to put a period to this thread...

Reuploaded Search.php, then deleted and reconstructed the Extra Fields, and everything works beautifully now. One of those "who knows really why" things.

Thanks to all who responded.

Regards,
