Default Email notifications suddenly stopped working after php upgrade

Hello. Last week our hosting decided to do what they termed "PHP hardening" on our server and they did a version upgrade to PHP 5.2.9. At that moment, SMTP mail stopped working for new orders, password queries and all new registration confirmation mails. IE: no new users! I desperately need any pointers you can give me as to what might have happened. I am chasing it up at the same time with the hosting co, but they seem a bit clueless. Thanks.

What I would probably do is to first change the registration to not enable confirmation. At least people could still visit and post ads.

As for the smtp that is something pretty difficult to test. Do you have a gmail account? Maybe try using it as the smtp server and see if that works. If so then you know it may be related to the host.

Another thing that I might suggest is to check your email server logs if you have access to them. With the information that you've given, it seems clear that this is related to something that your host has done as this was working prior to their changes. A review of errors could at least point you in the right direction or give you better information to give to the web host for resolution. I have found that especially talking to "front line" support, when you have information that seems to be over their head it will usually be escalated to the level of support that actually has the means to resolve the issue.

Default Solved

It was my hosting. Another domain on the shared server started mass spamming so admin decided to ban all SMTP access outside of owned domains. Of course, it broke my system, which used an exterior account.

Thanks for your help fellers!
