Is it a must to turn registered globals off?

register_globals is a part of the php core setup.

I'm no php expert by any means, however it is known that having this set to "on" is a huge security risk. There are many known script injections that can capture data and/or allow access within a site which would otherwise not be available to a hacker.

Most major scripts require that to be set to off, such as osCommerce, Joomla, Mambo, Zen Cart, etc., etc, etc.

Many sites on my server make use of the PHP include function.

After turning "Registered Globals" to off, many sites get errors like this

Warning: include(/index/inc/header.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/USER/public_html/index.php on line 7

Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening '/index/inc/header.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/USER/public_html/index.php on line 7

Can 68 run with Registered Globals turned on?

Or, can I just set the domain using 68 to turn off Registered Globals using .htacess instead of turing it off server wide?

Thanks.

I believe it can. I would recommend running some tests to make sure you have no errors once they are turned on.
