Post Registration in 2 steps

Hi everybody !

I hope you are fine !
I've a suggestion for the future releases of 68Classifieds, and want to know your opinion about this idea :

The real problem for a classifieds website is to succeed in registration of its members. If the registration fields are too numerous, s/he won't registrate...

I've got an idea, and I think it won't be so difficult to implement in 68Classifieds :
- when a member wants to be registrated, s/he just enter summary infos (username, password and email-address). Just enough to create his/her account.
- the complete registration form will be displayed after the member puts his/her ad (instead of "check the infos"). As the ad is completed (with photos) the informations have to be filed if the member wants his/her ad to be displayed. Machiavelic, no ?

In admin, the changes to be made are to create 2 cols (One for the "simple registration", the second for the "complete registration") with boxes to cross, and the administrator to choose what he wants to ask in the "light" and the "complete" registration step.

What do you think of this suggestion ?
Blair, Eric, is technically this option easily to implement ?

Have a nice week-end !

Regards from North of France
Pascal

The reason the user details are collected at registration time is because its used for billing info for some of the payment methods. Of course having them fill it in when they place an ad accomplishes the same thing, BUT for sites where a user may post frequest ads, are you suggesting they have to enter their details for every ad? That certainly seems more cumbersome than just adding it once at registration time.

Hi Larry !
Glad to meet you again in this forum
If they have correctly filled the form, they won't have to fill the fields again (just click on 'next' step, 'cause all the infos would already be displayed).
And if I remember, this step is just before the payment step, so I don't think this can cause trouble for the users.
With this method I thing you'll have more registrations, and I hope, more ads placed !
Best Regards
Pascal
