Default sold thing again.

Would it be possible to have a quick change to the modify ad section.

I think this shouls surfice for all the people wanting the sold feature.

If there was a check box in the modify ad section that displayed a SOLD image. We could have a snippet of code to put in our show and view templates.

The easiest way would be to have the tick box if else an image. if (box ticked show sold.png) else (show blank.gif)

I have code that does this rather than leaving a user a delete button instead they have a sold button to mark items as you can see here.

*remove spaces

Works well, you can change the stamp image size\transparency as you like although I fine white works well as it always shows up.

This will probably only work with the developer edition though

Also you lose the delete function. I think that the way I suggested is very simple and effective and would be easily customisable. We would be able to have our own sold graphic and place it where ever we liked.

Its a tricky one but my thoughts were that when a site is getting going you want to retain an ad as long as possible to keep the site looking busy.

If users have a delete option chances are they will just delete the ad rather than mark it as sold, the thinking being why bother marking it as sold if it is already gone and you want no more hassle from your item just clear the ad out.

In general terms I never really held with users being able to delete their own ads as from what I've seen classifieds \ sale sites \ auction sites in general don't give this function, if you place a classified in a paper it lasts for as long as the paper does, once its there its there like an ebay listing it runs for the course. Users get to let others know its gone by marking it sold and as a site admin you get to control the volume of ads by deciding how long to hold a Sold ad before deleting it in the code I have.

Always regarded deleting ads as an administrative function which could be performed on request but not the norm.

The previous sold system I used just replaced the user photos with a sold banner like you suggest but I much prefer stamping idea, the reason being that it really lets the viewer see what they missed, a sold banner does not convey anything about the asthetics of the item in question so the interest factor is lessened.

I had planned to implement mine using the radio button like you suggested so that a user could mark multiple items sold at the one time rather than having to do each individually, I think this is better, but like lots of ideas just haven't got the time to do it at the minute !!

My two pence worth !! really like the site by the way wish I had a better eye for design like that.

Thanks for the comments on the site.

I totally agree with all your comments. So maybe an idea would be for the delete button to become the sold button like you have done.

I do like the idea that visitors can look at the pictures even if sold, so the buton could add the sold image as my suggestion. Your way is good, but for asthetic reasons I would like a sold logo to place in the show and view listings pages.
