Exclamation Site movement within the same host

Earlier the my site structure looked like this
This is just an example site
www.mysite.com -> shown my 68 classifieds site
www.mysite.com/blog -> is redirected to my wordpress based blogsite.

Yesterday i wanted to switch the structure to:

www.mysite.com shown my wordpress blogsite for people to show the news
www.mysite.com/ads is redirected to my 68 classifieds site.

I edited the folder structure inside both wordpress and 68 classifieds admin/settings section to the correct one and moved all the folders via FTP.

It worked pretty well for like 1-2 hours than suddenly my site crashed and started somekind of "flow" and the tech guys had to shut it down. (403 error)

1. My question is: I did a full site stucture backup before i started the moveing process, will it work well if i copy thatone back?

2. If my site is back to work, what is the proper process to move my 68 classifeds site into a "folder" within the same host?

Thank you.

If you are dependent upon search engines, do not forget to use permanent 301 redirects using your .htaccess file in the root domain. Google it to see what should be done. Your hostng provider should also be able to advise. It can get quite complicated although your case would seem straightforward. Then and only then, give google your new sitemap file. Generally speaking you should not change your site structure if your site is well indexed and ranked unless you have good reasons to do so.

Providing you do not have any customizations that include hardcoding of your domain into site, you should be able to simply open a new folder, copy the contents of your 68C system into that new folder. Then goto http://www.yourdomain.com/administration/ and log in. Set your new path ( site url) in main settings and press submit. Do make sure you don't have old 68C files lurking around in your old location.

If you have cpanel you can normally do the copying from your old path to your new path in a few seconds. It is in my experience more reliable than FTP. Then look into using redirects using .htaccess afterwards

It sounds like you either got FTP corruption or you perhaps had duplicate filenmames between wordpress and 68C so ended up with a mix on your root. Start with empty .htaccess files in your root and in your subdirectory.

always a good idea after moving a site to clear the contents of /templates_c also.

I second that. I once moved a whole bunch of files between two non 68C sites totaling almost 2 GB using cPanel - so easy! I do like cPanel but I'm thinking of taking up UK based hosting soon with a company that offers a Plesk control panel, anyone have any experience of Plesk?

Plesk has much of the functionality that cPanel does, however IMHO is nowhere near as intuitive. Also be forewarned that in many cases it uses pop up windows that get blocked by standard pop up window blockers. It took me for a loop when I was setting up a clients site for a 68C install and was trying to get to the phpMyadmin to create a database for it and nothing was happening.

It's still better than a lot of the other crap I've seen out there and is much better than GoDaddy's plethora of non-intuitive features.

Still waiting for tech guys to set my site back online. Copied back the old filed (thank God i made a backup before the move)

I guess i figured out what was the problem.

Worldpress has a .htacces file which is directing to the old folder. Once i removed the old folder i guess its still wanted to point there, and that caused the loop.

Can it really crash a whole server?
