Default mobile ready

Is there a mobile ready version of 68c or some method of conversion, without having to buy an additional dot-mobi domain?

You could create a user-agent check with a redirect without the need for a separate domain.

Sorry to be so dense, but I'm not sure what this means... Redirect to what?

You can point a device to the 68C demo site to see what it will look like on a mobile device. To my knowledge its no optomized for mobil devices, the very nature of a classified site is to display a lot of dynamic info and lets face it little screens dont handle it well.

What blair was saying however is that you do not need a mobi domain to display mobile data and on that same note having a mobi domain does not mean what it displays will be optimized for mobile viewing. Having said that, if you had a 68C site, or any site for that matter, and wanted to have mobile specific content, you could add code to determine what the user agent is (ie the viewing device/browser) and based on that, show the user the pages that will display best.

So this added "code" could create a special page for a mobile device (user agent), display just pertinent text and maps for instance. I understand that a lot of info wouldn't be practical to display on such small screens.

Who could design such code?

I would probably create two different template sets. One for the mobile and the other which would be your main sites templates. Then do just as the others have said and use some type of redirect if they are on a mobile device.
