Default Photo protection...

I have one installation and am about to purchase number 2.

I have a few quick questions that I have searched for but can' find.,,

1. My client wants to run just an RV inventory site (no outside users posting or registering). Can it be used this way? Can the contact form be used by guest users without registering?
2. He wants 36 photos per listing. Can it have this many?
3. He is also worried about protecting his images. Can some kind of script be run along w/ 68 that disallows right click and copying images?

I know they are not foolproof but it will put his mind at ease. He is an RV dealer that stocks the huge motorhomes costing hundreds of thousands of dollars that the other dealers only order when they are sold. Those other dealer use his photos to sell to their own clients. Since he takes 36 photos of each rig they can let their seller know what they get if they order. The manufacturer sites only show a few photos.

4. Designer or Developer?

Thanks in advance!

Yes some slight mods can sort this out for you.

Yes, unlimited photos, be aware that this might slowdown page load speeds. I would suggest showing 5 or 6 but having a link to view more images should the user be interested.

There is nothing to stop users copying your images. There are number of things you can do to help prevent copying and usage. Watermark your images with your domain name. Use htaccess to stop your pictures being displayed on other websites (there are lots of bandwidth thieves who use your images on their site)

I always recommend developer but thats a personal choice.

That decision is based on if you will be editing any files other than the templates. You will just need to find out all the exact needs of your customer and base your decision off of that.

Also I suggest watermarking each photo. As a tip don't disable right click to protect photos.

Thanks for the quick reply Maffo!

I will run the watermarking by him.

I know that even w/ right click protection the image source is still viewable in the source code but he doesn't understand that. He saw it somewhere and thinks that's bulletproof. I just want to know if I do run that kind of script (which I don't even have yet) will it interfere w/ the 68 system?

He's just got it in his head that its what he has to have.

Thanks again.

There are scripts out there that do this and they probably wont interfere but if somebody really wants your images, they can take them. There is no stopping them. Sometimes clients need to listen to what their developer is telling them.

If you look at my demo site here

http://www.classified-software.co.uk/68-classifieds-v4/

You can see that all of my images are watermarked.

Yes, mine are in red, across the middle of the photo, but you can set transparency, location, color etc.

Just tell your client that if someone can view the image they can steal it. The only protection is not displaying it.

Even if an image is stolen they have no recorse aside from recovering usage costs unless they have actually registered the image with the copyright office.
