I don't seem to be experiencing problems here with a new template which is going to be offered:

Home | my demo

Work is still needed on the inner templates and I will undertake this in the next fortnight.

Mike is right in it doesn't have the exact feature set as v4.1 but it does have different features and a little different outlook on how it was built. The major goal for v5 is to more flexible and to allow you to bend it to your needs. In all previous version we seemed to be adding in features that not everyone used and in turn the script was very rigid in how it worked. The changes to v5 allows you to better change it, extend it, and have it work the way you want your site to function. Not limited to how the core is. Granted by going this route it will and does have a little higher curve but I felt this was needed and most of the current user base would appreciate the flexibility.

I have personally seen some sites using the new system that have features that would have be very complex with v4 and are very impressive. Plus by moving to CodeIgniter all users now have a ton of libraries already built that can be quickly and easily added right in. Think facebook connect, twitter oauth, bit.ly, and tons of other apis. - http://codeigniter.com/wiki/Libraries

Also what features are missing in v5 that v4 had? The pm system is the only one I can think of off hand.

Our goal is to include the same features of v5 as v4. Including the same features and providing greater development flexibility increases the value of v5 tremendously.

The PNG files used in the admin UI have been optimized and the paths to the images in the "IE fix" portion of the fancybox css file have been corrected.

Please let me know if the admin pages seem to be rendering faster.

I'm still not satisfied but progress is being made

As mentioned
• Private messaging

Additionally the following items are not pre-made by default:
• No Terms & Conditions page
• No About page
• No Contact Us page
• No Contact Owner form
• No Featured listings

The following payment gateways are not available:
• linkpoint
• moneybookers
• payjunction
• paymate
• twocheckout
• worldpay

Features not available:
• The ability to upload your own logo to the theme
• statistics
• No settings for registration (It automatically registers and activates the account, although there is a “Pending” user group, there doesn’t seem to be any settings that would put a user into that group)

In the admin, the performance may have improved slightly. One of the things I have noticed is that even after the page loads, the links are often not clickable for about 10 seconds.

Thanks for working on this.

I installed a speedtrace application on our PC yesterday in order to have a means of measuring our progress . Yesterday, we were getting grades of "F" in IE7 when loading admin pages. With the changes I mentioned in my previous post, we're getting a rating of "C".

Getting better!!
Gotta few more things to implement.

I can not speak for 68 Classifieds myself, however it is my understanding that with v5.x because of it's modularity, the base script is not going to have as many features as previous versions, therefore keeping the "base" price down. You can then purchase whatever add-ons that fit your needs for your particular market/needs/desires....
This is very descriptive, thank you. I think that it might be a good idea to sell the core script cheaper and have add on modules purchased to fit the needs (If Eric decides to do it that way). I am also very anxious to see final results .

I think there may be missing (I don't know my way around the script yet, so I may be mistaken) some settings features.

1. Image settings (width, height, thumb size, etc.)
2. Regional settings (currency, time, date, language)
3. Search settings
4. User view settings.
5. Etc.

Like I said maybe it is just because I haven't found it on V5 yet.

Also I have a found a bug in V5. (the demo) But I can't seem to be able to post it in the bug tracker, it says I must choose a category which I cannot find.

@energyfreak - both image settings and regional settings have been moved to a config.php file. Since these really do not change very often we decided it would be best to change it once in a file and then not have to worry about it.

3 and 4 can be changed via the views now.

@mike - Thanks. I forgot about some of those and thanks for pointing them out. The pages will probably not be added since people can just add them if they want. The gateways will be added in time, but those haven't been really that popular so not a high priority to date.
