Default Display payment details in Manage Listings

Hi

My site has just gone live and I am starting to process dozens of orders each day.

I am finding it very awkward switching backwards and forwards from view listings and view orders and linking which listing relate to which order.

Could anyone give me any advice on what procedure they use when processing large numbers of orders?

I particularly would find it useful to display the "TOTAL" field when viewing listings so I can easily see which are paid ads and which are free. Can this be done as a simple mod?

Many thanks

Mike McCann

Im not following you here Mike. Why are you going back and forth between orders and listings? Can you clearly describe your workflow? You can view listings associated with an order by clicking an order and then when viewing an order use the tabs to view the listing associated with it.

Also changing the order status changes the listing status so all you really have to do is manage orders.

Hi Larry

The problem I have is as follows

I go to Manage Orders and see an new one

I click on Listings tab (to check the user hasnt entered their URL as part of the text, for spelling mistakes etc)

I click Submit after the changes have been made by me.

BUT... the system then goes to Manage Listings NOT back to Manage Orders

I have to then go back the Manage Orders, find the order again and make it complete.

With so many orders it's driving me crazy.

The main problem is I offer free listings for a simple text ad with no URL's or email addresses shown, but people try and abuse this by entering theit URL as part of the text!

Any better way of working around this?

Thanlks

Mike
P.S. Your mods are great - thank you

Mike,

Since you are on v4.0.9 I think the easiest thing to do would be to view the order then click the listings tab. Next to view the listing hold down "shift" and click the link. This should open that link in a new window so you can make changes or check it out. Then when finished close those window and you will be back to the order.

In v4.1 I changed this so the listing tabs shows some of the listing details but I think it might get changed again to show the full listing details.

Thanks Eric

That helps a lot.

Just wish I had upgraded to V4.1 BEFORE paying for loads of mods to be done ! (being a beginner when it comes to PHP and smarty I a terrified of making the upgrade after so much hard work has gone into the site!)

Can I say at this point how helpful everyone has been during my 'learning period'. I have used many software packages in the past but never have any offered such kind support (special thanks to Eric, Blair, MikeNtosh and Larry! for putting up with my stupid questions!)

Mike

Mike, thats why the module system was devised. It allows us to create modules that dont alter the core code of the site which means when you do un upgrade, if the module is supported by your new version, there are virtually no changes you have to make.

Sure, creating a module is often more difficult on the front end for us to create but on your end its ultimatly a lot easier to manage and upgrade your site etc.

Silly question......but......if I upgrade do all my template files get overwritten.

Most of my 'home-made' mods relate to template files and not the php.

My main concern is having the templates overwritten and having to 'tweak'' them all again

In this case since its a major revision change there are template differences.

Ideally what you do is DONT modify the default templates. You COPY one of the default templates to another folder and modify that one. Upgrades do include the templates so if you upload everything to your site your default template will be overwritten but your modified version of it wont because it has a different name than the default.
