Smile Place Ad in Multiple Categories

Hi! I'm just wondering if it's possible to place an ad in multiple categories? My client has a website setup with four different Aiport Areas (ie Stansted, Heathrow, Gatwick and London City) and sometimes people want to place the same ad in the four different areas.

Is is possible to change the site so that customers only have to type the ad out once then choose to place it in the areas they require?

Hope that makes sense! Thanks in advance!

That is not a built in feature. Sorry.

Hi Mike

Thanks for your reply - is it not something that I can modify or would it be a bit too complicated?

I can not speak for 68 Classifieds officially.

The reason that I believe that this is not available is due to the fact that the listing packages themselves are linked to specific categories. Just about anything is, of course possible, however this would be a rather complicated feat in my opinion. It is also one of those type of things that the developer would have to make several decisions on how it worked and no matter which way they went, others would want it to work differently.

For example, when would the end user be presented with the choice of other category placement? How would those categories be presented? What happens when the category does not have the listing package available? How is that presented? An alert box, highlighting the category it's not available in? Once they are activated and displayed. What happens then? When each ad is about to expire, do we send individual expiration emails or one email with the list of all the duplicate ads? What about deletion? When an item is sold?, etc., etc., etc.

If you are unable to open the php files, read through them and determine what you need to do to accomplish this functionality, then its likely too complicated for you. Truth be told I am fairly competent with PHP and I dont like playing with the checkout too much. With the steps, multiple files and functions involved its pretty complex.

In my time developing mods I have started on more than a couple projects that I simply gave up on half way into it because I stumbled onto some behavior that couldnt be easily addressed using the module system. It can often be acomplished easier by just hacking the core script files but not everyone has the developer edition and it also makes for a nightmare if you ever want to upgrade your site.
