I would like to pass "RSS" type of news to my listers, ie input news coming from local TV stations, or even goog-like filtering -- stories that relate about my community area. Is there a way to make external.php work in reverse <grin> or some mod which I can literally plug - in and show the listings rolling down, in a designated space? I have seen this mod in serveral places on different sites, so probably php-related. Anybody do it already? Or point to some source code?
Alternatively I would pump in text manually and it would just roll out.... I think Maffo may have done something like this earler. but I would prefer the auto-feed. No references in the docs. Thanks much barryG

external.php is used to query YOUR database and build an rss feed. You need to do the opposite and there are many scripts out there that do this, (ie Magpie RSS - PHP RSS Parser ).

Yes simplepie and magpie basically designed to do the same. The major difference is MagPie hasn't been updated since 2005.

Just to throw another option into the bucket....caRP works great as well:
CaRP : PHP RSS to HTML Converter On the following page, I have it pulling auto news, a youtube feed and an ebay affiliate feed: Cruisin' for Deals

BarryG I am not aware of any. That tutorial was written out of a request I got. Not sure if they have had time to add it to their site or not.
Currently the 68c admin uses MagPie for the rss feeds. Mainly on the admin dashboard, modules page, and templates. It would work very similar to that.
