How can I make the login page for users secured?

Go to administration -> settings -> main settings and enter the https url. This will cause the checkout, login, and member section to use this.

Ok I entered the url and it added https:// site address but it wasn't displayed had to back space to delete it

If it didn't work you may want to check your layout.tpl and make sure you have {$smarty.const.URLS}/login.php

got it sorted out needed to get a ssl certificate.
