Ok... how about a hook or mod that would add a "links" page that would draw from the livesites section of your site. This way, any live 68 site would have simple text link somewhere in it that pointed to a PHP page listing all the other live sites. We would be referring ourselves to others and getting the same in return. The referrals will not always be "related" but in the end, links are links.
This could be a simple thing to ad and could benefit every one of us in our site promotions. By making this a text link, we could bury it in our navigation schemas or on our links page so that search engines find it but not most of our visitors. What you do you think?

I have never thought of this and I am not sure how much interest it would have. However I will try and check if our live sites has an rss feed that could be used.

In the end, links ARENT always links im afraid. There is a big difference between a good link and a bad link.

Maff... is this a bad thing then? Assuming we are not linking to a porn or something like that, can a mod like this harm our rankings? Just trying to leverage the community to our collective advantage?

I think this is a good idea, just be careful with the links. If another site has no relevance to your subject matter then you do yourself harm.
EG. You have 100 links on your website to and from boating sites. Thats great 100% to do with boats. If you then add 100 links to do with golf, sun tan cream and mountain climbing only 50% of your links are relevant to your sites subject matter. What would be better is if we could submit links to our sites to perhaps a database. Other users are then free to choose the ones they wish to go on there site and can simply mark the link as active on their site. I can then see who is linking to me and if I want to link back to them. You could even submit links for different pages of your website offering a link for the different categories of your website. If this goes ahead I would love to take part in it. Im having a day off today so those who have PM'd me, will be back tomorrow.

Hi Maffo,
How about using a link exchange script instead? Will this do any good? I saw lots of affordable link scripts out there like linkman. Some link scripts allow the site owner can review the suggested link first before it is published so bad links can be avoided. Anything that you recommend?

I really recommend you to get links naturally. Articles is one of the best natural way. Also if you have a good and interesting site people will link to you. Receptional links almost weight nothing these days. And if search engines will catch that you are using programs you could be penalized for years.

I agree with SK here, I would have to recommend against any link exchange programs.
Just on my way out so cant answer here in full.
