Mail System Not Working

i have set up the smtp settings but i can't get the confirmation emails working - i am positive i have the server settings correct because its what i use on my outlook and just manually logged into webmail to double check the password - i also checked the email queue via whm but nothing is stuck there so it probably didn't reach the mail system.

when i test the registration http://www.mydomain.com/classifieds/userjoin.php just hangs and give a "You are not connected to the Internet...." error but a refresh reloads the page - the new user is added to the database but as i said no confirmation emails - it suggests to me that the mail script isn't configured properly but not sure - any suggestions as to how to correct this or where to check??

I have never used smtp for a livesite, always set it off and the emails send fine. Any reason you need to use that system?

SMTP mail requires authentication and additional headers making it more likely to be recieved as non spam mail. I always recommend using SMTP.

So my first question would be, "Have you tried sending email through the admin, like a newsletter?"

yup - php mail works just can't get smtp happening

SMTP works for many others so the code itself should be functional. Thats leaves only settings that could be wrong. I would double check with your host and see if they have any more info about using smtp and double check your settings.
