Default Email Settings for validating new users

I was wondering if there are any settings to speed up the email to newly register users for validation, I did a test run to my different email accounts, gmail, hotmail, and my domain, they were all got there in good time except for hotmail. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Something like this is really way beyond our scope. I have no idea how those email providers handle incoming mail or anything along those line.

I saw that there is a priority settings, includes/classes/mailer & kernal with settings of 1 for high priority and I think 3 for normal. Would this affect anything at all if i changed them to 1?

The priority setting isn't going to affect the delivery of the mail.

Thats nothing more than a label used for the client mail reader.

Default Hotmail....

Any idea why hotmail is slow in receiving the validation? I wonder if they filter it out as junk mail....

Bear in mind that Hotmail has the largest email user base in the country. They literally process millions and millions of emails a day. So, yes many times it's slow.

My own personal experience with hotmail users and 68c is total inconsistency. Sometimes they don't receive any mail at all and sometimes they do. The most irritating of all is the fact that when a new user registers, they are sent two emails. The first is the thank you for registering email with their user info. The second is the confirmation/validation email. I've had many instances where the hotmail user will only get the first email and not the second. This happens with Yahoo email as well (The second largest email user base).

I don't personally use hotmail. I did many years ago, but it was this same inconsistency from the users perspective in addition to the huge amount of SPAM that I received as well. I've heard the SPAM has been greatly reduced and I would have to conclude that is one of the reasons that it's a little slow at times.

The bottom line is, the emails sent from 68c has no control over third party email services. I don't do it myself, but some folks say that using SMTP instead of sendmail/mail (php) works better.

Yes, they do do a lot of mail filtering but also as mike stated they are huge. You have no control over what they do with your mail or how long it takes them to process your mail so wasting any time on it, im my mind is just that, a waste of time.

The benefit SMTP has is that it has different/additional mail headers. To send smtp e-mail generally means additional authentication has been performed which makes the acount more valid in the eyes of mail servers that service the recipient and in the end often means that your script generated e-mail are less likely to end up in the trash.
