Email are not going out

Hello

I testes the email a friend feature and its giving me this:

Error
There has been a mail error!

Can you guys tell me how to fix it I realy don't know what to do, I have send a ticket but they still haven't respond yet, I realy fustruated.

Its a little tough to offer you any help when we have no idea about your particular setup. Is your host windows or linux based? Are you using smtp mail? Is the mail address you entered in admin hosted on the same server you 68c is, if not then you MUST use SMPT.

As for support not responding, many places in the US have been closed for the last 4 days due to the holidays.

My server is a linux base, I am trying to use smtp, but also is not working, I think I have everything correct, smtp address, username, password and port #, and when I try for example send and email using contact the owner and this is what came up: There has been a mail error! The following From address failed:
Can you tell me what you thing of this�what I am doing wrong�

Also it was working before not using smtp, and all over sudden that error message is comming up, i prefere not to use smtp because godaddy just give me 250 email smtp relay per day and thats not enoug, and i don't whant to pay for more...

Well, if it was working and then all of a suddon stopped that means that there is nothing wrong with the script itself and either you, or your host changed something. If you know you didnt change anything then your host must have and since there is no way any of us could kknow what they changed, your best bet would be to contact them.

See Larry what's happening is that the contact the owner is working fine but the email a friend is the one geving me the error message, have any idea of what could be happening...

Also another problem is that i can't place ads it just get to step 3 in the check out proces, i don't know if thats has to do something with the email problem, what do you think...

The send to a friend don't know at the first test didn't work. The other problem with the ads, yes it was working properly before...

The sending an ad to a friend issue may be the result of a strict e-mail policy with your host. The problem is that when you fill out the send to a friend you enter your name, your e-mail, your friends name and their e-mail. Now, the scripts cant send the mail as if its coming from your e-mail address because that is considered relaying and pretty much every host on the planet does not allow that. So what happens is it gets sent out by the script using your e-mail info (as entered in admin) BUT its from someone else (ie the person sending the ad) and ultimately is going to yet a 3rd party. Beause your e-mail (yours as in the person contacting a friend) doesnt match the e-mail you as the site owner has in admin many hosts will either not send the mail thinking its spam. And, even if your host does send it not all mail servers will accept it because the sent from and reply to headers are different.

So whats the answer? Well, if your site is sending out e-mails for registration its not your -mail settings in admin. Its likely your hosts limitations. Evn if you host is sending it the recipients host may not accept it. In either case there is nothing you can do about it.

As for you ad placement errors, if it worked at one time then the scripts arent broken unless you or your host broke them and just saying that checkout stops at step 3 doesnt give anyon a lot to go on in terms of helping you out. When the script stops is there anything on the scren? Did you check your servers error logs? Is this regular checkout or are you using a membership?

See Larry, when I try to place an ad I do,

1. Select category
2. Enter info on ad
3. I upload the image

Now when I press upload it just goes to a blank page and I have to reload the page and then it says you have uploaded 2 pic�s out of one and I have it so you can upload only one pic, and then I have to press the skip this step button so I can go to the next step, verify your info. The images are not uploading, and the email that it send when the ad is about to expire, the link to the website in the message it has an extra .com (www.miejemplar.com.com), I really don�t know where to look to fix this, and this happens in a regular check out not membership and I really don�t know where to check the servers error logs, I use dreamweaver and I don�t know where to look,
