Default Registration email question

When a customer registers, they are asked to verify their account by following the link in an email message sent to their email account. They are automatically sent 2 emails which seems to be causing a bit of confusion for some of the people Ive asked to test my site. The first is the Please confirm your account which is fine and the other is the Thank you for registering, but they havent technically registered yet as they may not have followed the link in the first email. Is it possible to set it up to only send this second email after they have followed the link provided in the first email?

You could delay the second email but you couldn't include their password because it is encrypted in the database at that point and you wouldn't be able to get it out.

if we could delay the second email, would that solve the problem with hotmail and the like, where it has been said that the sending of two emails simutainiously (upon registration) and only the first email actually gets through?

normally its the actual content of the email that will stop it getting through to user. Maybe one of the words in the second email is causing it to be sent to spam.

Why not simply place in big text on the successful registration page, "THANKS FOR REGISTERING!!!!! WE HAVE SENT YOU TWO EMAILS, YES TWO , NOT JUST ONE!!! IF YOU ARE A HOTMAIL OR YAHOO USER THE MAILS MAYBE SENT TO YOUR SPAMBOX!!"

If your visitors dont see that then there isnt much more you can do
