Hi there running version 3.14,
Having an odd and frustrating issue with the Contact The Ower form and hotmail. Most emails get through to hotmail and are filtered to junk or not depending on personal user account settings, i.e. the Newsletter email through Admin Panel and direct emails though Host control panel are all sent to hotmail fine using the sites main email account. However when I use the Contact The Owner form, the emails just don't seem to make it through to hotmail at all, I mean they are not filtered out to a junk/bulk folder or anything like that they just don't appear. When I use the Contact The Owner form on other non hotmail addresses they get through fine. Server is hosted by ipowerweb and runs FreeBSD 4.11-STABLE. I have my emails accounts set up in host Vdeck panel and referenced in 68 Classifieds Admin panel. This used to work fine and I have emails from last month that I received re. ads but not anymore. Can anyone help on this ? need to get it working asap as lots of members use hotmail. Thanks in advance, Mully

Both the contactowner and the newsletter appear to use the same mail headers and include the same fields so its strange that one works with hotmail but not the other.
Can you send yourself a contact owner e-mail and a newsletter and compare the e-mail headers for differences? |

Have redefined my email address to my Yahoo one and just tested Contact The Owner email, which comes through fie and have captured the header info.
Any easy way to just send a newsletter to myself missing all the other registered users from it ?

To just send a newsletter to yourself you would probably have to temporarily modify the /administration/email.php script to just send to you.
You could put an if statement in to only process mail if the name is your test account or change the sql query so it only grabs your account inf. |

Got the header info from sending mails to my yahoo account, one from the Contact The Owner and the other from the Newsletter email.
Not too sure what I need to be looking at there are several fields no big differences jump out though and spam assassin reports a no on both. Any ideas where to start ? really need to get this working ASAP as have missed several mails already. Thanks in advance, Mully

Im not exactly sure what your looking for eaither but if hotmail is accepting contact owner but rejecting the newsletter there must be some difference in the headers. Without seeing them I cant be of much help though aside from telling you to look and compare and let us know where any difference lie.

Anyone else noticed issues receiving emails using the Contact The Seller form to a hotmail account ?
Hotmail is not even letting these emails into the system at this point for my site let alone filtering them to a folder, no problems with Yahoo or other email providers so I'm guessing hotmail may have changed something. Strangest thing is that the Newsletter and Registration emails get through fine and the Contact The Seller email worked perfectly up until about a month ago, I think hard to know when it stopped working. Anyone had anything like this before ?

They could have your domain's ip address blacklisted I know we ran into something similiar a long time ago but I can't remember how we found out about it. I will try to ask Blair tommorow and see if he has any ideas.

I found out hotmail recently started scanning html e-mail also. I cent imagine the would find something sinister in a contact the owner e-mail but just in case I suppose we could try turining of isHTML to see if it had any effect.
Aside from that I know that some mail servers simply use the recipients address book as a white list. For those having problems with hotmail or any mail for that matter if possible try and add the e-mail addy your classified site send mail from to the e-mail accounts address book that is giving you problems. |

Hi Eric\Larry,
Think I may have made some progress on this although what I found is still pretty frustrating. If someone contacting re a listing enters a hotmail account it goes through fine to a hotmail account. So if the person listing has registered a hotmail address and the person contacting is using a hotmail address no problem. I tried the same tests with some other email accounts i.e. yahoo, gmail etc, and guess what hotmail doesn't deliver the mail at all if you contact a hotmail advertiser using a non hotmail email address. I'm trying to ascertain if this is particular to my site and perhaps its url or is generally the case. This is bad because hotmail accounts for a large portion of our membership who cannot afford to miss contact emails. Not sure what alternatives we have on this any ideas ? Thanks, Mully
