News Mod

[Maffo]

I posted on the old a site, a NEWS MOD that allows you to add news or articles to your site, a little bit like a simple blog.

You enter the articles through the admin section.

Its fairly straight forward to install so have fun with it.

TIP** With permission, you can view the source code of news articles from other sites, copy the HTML and insert it, then all the coding is done for you, can have some nice articles within a couple of minutes. Also, the search engines love new content.

Please let me know if there is any problems with the mod, Ihave tested it and it works fine on my site.

NB. You will need to incorporate it into your own sites style and design.

I've been playing around with the mod and think it would be perfect for a newsletter. I have made a few changes and it works very well for a newsletter. You can have a look at my test site, GoBuyItSydney and click on Newsletter on the menu to see how it looks. Take no notice of the content - just a test at this stage.

Great Mod.

Dunno if this is left field ... but is there was some way RSS feeds could be incorporated into this ... that way owners could have the option of either adding their own content or adding others - either manually or automatically.

I do this:
CLick on SQL at the top, copy and paste the text from 'mySQL dump' and press 'GO'

and than I get this error Message

#1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax.  Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=1' at line 30

any ideas?

I got that, too, Winnie.
I had to change this:-

) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=1 ;

to this:-

) TYPE=MyISAM;

to get the table to load.
I also have problems but it's not database stuff. When I try to access any news from the front end I get this:-

Warning: Smarty error: unable to read resource: "maff/news.tpl.php" in /usr/home/globalgoldforex.com/htdocs/includes/template/Smarty.class.php on line 1095

Hi Maffo,
hope you're feeling better soon.

I had put the /user folder/maff folder/ in the wrong place.
Your instructions read:-

-----------------THE USER FOLDER----------------

The Folder 'maff' should be dropped into your Templates folder.

When it should be dropped into the default folder.
Anyway now that I have it working it looks like a first class addition to 68C.

Cheers Don, sorry about the confusion there. I will edit the readme to be more user friendly with the template instructions.
