I'm getting a 'Remote Server or file not found' page. I've followed all the suggestions at Blank admin page including uploading a blank key.php file to my license folder, clearing my cache and templates_c folder and checking error reporting but nothing doing. Please, please please! I really love 68C and am trying hard to stick with it. I've checked my license key and that matches up so what could be the problem? All help gratefully received . . .
Could you please provide some more details as to how/where/when this is happening? What page are you getting, "Remote Server or file not found" on? Is that page (from previous question) different than the administration page? (I'm asking this, because you were following instructions for a "blank admin page") I'm just trying to understand exactly what you are experiencing, because a blank page is much different than a page displaying an error. Uploading a blank "key.php" file to the license folder shouldn't have any affect on anything except for when the administration page is displaying "License suspended" which is different than the previous two scenarios.
Hi Mike I'm getting the 'Remote Server or file not found' page at mysite/administration. You're quite right, that isn't really a 'blank' page is it? Any suggestions mate?
So if your front end is working properly, then I would check your .htaccess file in the administration directory. Try downloading a copy of it and then deleting it off of the server.
Hmmm... The error that you are getting indicates that one of two things is happening. Neither of those two things would be the fault of 68 Classifieds script itself, especially if everything was working properly before. Something has to have changed. 1) The script can't connect with a remote server The only time a remote server is used is for validation, so that can't be the case here as there isn't any issue in connecting to the validation server or there would be many other people reporting this same error.2) File not found. When a file can't be found (on a web server), it can be caused by many different things. That's why I had you check for the .htaccess file first, because that file can "redirect" the webserver to a different file (sometimes incorrectly, or if it's corrupted). The file itself may actually be missing, which would obviously then not be found. Another common reason is that the "permissions" have been changed or corrupted. Although this usually gives a different error such as, "permission denied", the server settings or the php settings can be overridden to show a different message and many times are indeed set to give a more generic message such as this to thwart "hackers". So my next suggestion would be to check your permission settings for the administration directory and/or the files within it. On most servers the directories/folders should be set to 755 (rwxr-xr-x) and the files within them should be set to 644 (rw-r--r--).
Permissions to directories and files are all as they should be. You're quite right that "something has to have changed" but I really can't think what that might be although my server has been upgraded to PHP 5.2.17 - would that make a difference? Appreciate your assistance Mike
Grateful for your efforts Mike, especially as this isn't your responsibility. I haven't been able to sort this out and so I've submitted a ticket to Support.
