Default This file is not writable. Please CHMOD it to 777

Question:

I am trying to add back my google adsense that I lost.

When I go to Template Settings then Template Editor the I select Evo-Black/
then I select layout.tpl

I get the following message:

This file is not writable. Please CHMOD it to 777 if you wish to use this editor.

Am I in the wrong place?

If so where do I go to find the correct layout.tpl page to insert
Adsense Codes, banners etc.

Please understand, I have managed to edit all the pages and categories etc.

but this part is really confusing to me.

Once I do this on the Evo-Black Template do I then have to do it again on the other templates?

1. change the permissons of the file you wish to edit using your FTP/editior if it allows it or your cpanel. This will be covered normally in their help pages. Strange that it should have permissions 777.

2. If you are seekng to put adsense banners and wish them to appear on every page then you are correct. You need to edit each layout.tpl file for each template you are using.

However, if you are talking about the adspaces in sidebars:

No layout.tpl is the not the file which holds the actual adsense content and this is covered in the support manual - it is modules/templatezones/templates/adspace1.tp etc . Also check in the templatezones admin link in the 68 C modules section of the control panel that the apdspaces have not been disabled. If they are then drag them back into the sidebars where you want them.

Default Ad Spaces No longer in Templates Zones

Hi,

I went to templates zones per the manual and could no longer see the ad spaces.
What I did the other day was drag the ones on the right to the dump box and left the ones on the left.

Now I can't see them at all.

You or David installed the templates codes upgrade for me just this past week.

I am really trying to understand where I should plan to do most of my editing but it is not always clear.
I have set it all ftp but thought I should avoid using that except to maybe upload some images.

Since I do a lot of website work, perhaps I would understand this all better if I just did everything ftp .

Anyway, could you take a look and see what's going on with these ad spaces.

I really need to place some banner ads etc.

CLASSIFIEDS GAZETTE

Any problem with me making my top logo much wider? Would that throw off the entire template?

Thanks so much

I really am unsure of your issue as I logged int your admin panel, went to the template zones module, clicked on the admin link and your 2 adspaces are deactivated in the "disable box". No problems to be found at all. If you don't want the adspaces there, just drag them to the sidebar you wish them to be displayed in. Be aware when you make changes it is always a good idea to clear your browser cookies and cache. In addition, the contents in the FTP space of your templates_c folder.

To edit the contents of adpaces you need to do what I have said in my post above. To edit the layout in general it is layout.tpl. Do remember the google adsense rules by the way. No more than 3 units on a page. Also it can take 10-15 minutes before new adsense code will show after you have inserted the code.

Summary: new contents require that you edit the adpace files themselves whereas their position is determined by what you have set using the admin control panel (templatezones module).

You can insert any logo you like and if it is too hig, you adjust the css style sheet in each template folder you are using. Specially the code for the header which is currently set to have a height of 100px. Width is generally not a problem as you have 1005px to play with.

This is not a support forum for templatecodes (please use support in future).
