Hello. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong but thought I would ask.

I am using version 4.1 with the deepsea template.

I created 2 extra fields. Customers can input the numbers into the extra fields ok and it shows up in the listing however, when I click the search link, I cannot search by the extra fields as their is no blanks to fill in the value range.

extra fields are assigned to categories. Different categories can have different extra fields. If I have a site that sells cars, boats and houses and I had a bunch of extra fields specific to each of those categories it wouldnt make sene, when someone is looking for a car, to ask them if they want to search by lot size.

With that in mind the extra fields wont display until you select a specific category on the search page.

Hi, I did select all categories when creating the extra field.

But, having said that, I see that the default search category is "Search All". If I change it to anything other then "Search All", my fields appear. I can see the benefit to setting it up this way but am curious if this be changed to include the "Search All" field.

That is actually the way it is designed. The reason for this is because different extra fields can be assigned to different categories. So they load based off the category selection.

ok, one other thing. I chose to search by a range but there is only a single text box? I need two text boxes like with price to be able to search a number range. One of my fields is the amount of hours in operation.

That is actually bug that I just discovered from someone else today. The range can only be set on select options and not input fields. The bug is the administration shows the range option for input fields when it shouldn't.

ok, so when the bug is fixed, I will be able to have a range to search then right? Like the price?

If you find a bug your best bet is to post it in the bug tracker. Sometimes they will reply there with an interum fix. If there are multiple bugs that get addressed a new release is often produced and it will be announced in the announcement forum and in the dashboard of your site.
