Default Forcing Photo Size?

Me again

Is there any way to force picture size in the showlistings view, or crop it to a fixed size? So that all pictures are the same and it looks neat.

Find
Code:
<td{if $entry.class<>""} class="{$entry.class}"{/if}><a href="{$entry.link}" title="{$entry.title}">{if $entry.image != ""}<img src="thumbs/small_{$entry.image|escape:"url"}" border="0" alt="{$entry.title}" />
which is in templates/default/showlistings.tpl
and after the border="0" add width="120" height="120" and just change the 120 to your liking.
Cheers,
Nick

Bear in mind that doing it this way (although it will force exact dimensioning) is using the browser to do this and will distort the images that aren't these dimensions. This could cause images to look very bad.

on my sites i just determine the width, so some look higher than others but thats better than distorted images and atleast they are all inline.

The reality is whatever dimensions you choose, your customers will try to put in photos which will not look good. If you advise it is ideal to put in landscape images with rough proportions x:y then I guarantee customers will try to put in portrait photos with with completely different proportions. This means scaling alone is never going to be a complete solution. In my opinion the best you can do is to advise in big letters in the checkout process template what is going to look best so people can think about putting good images in the begin with that have the right proportions to begin with.

I would like Larry to comment as what he does not know about images will probably fit on the back of a postage stamp.

The other thing to bear in mind is, "what is the final goal?" Most times when this question arises it is because the site owner wants consistency for the layout with the pictures, especially thumbnails. So the issue isn't necessarily the pictures themselves, but the block (or lack thereof) that the pictures are displayed within.

With that in mind, one solution is to add a css class specifically for the pictures that will accommodate the largest picture that you would display in the block. Although the question/topic is different in this thread, my suggestion would work for this as well. Although you may want to not include a background color.
