Default Limit on Keywords?

I am being limited to about 40 keywords. Should that be so, and is there a way around the limit?

Thanks,
Ryan

keyswords play an extremely SMALL part on your search engine placement, im confused as to why you are spending so much time on this.

Why would you want so many keywords? Search engines hardly use them if at all. They certainly will not take notice of 40. You can always do tests and hardcode them into your layout.tpl but I do not see the point.

I'm not aware of any limit, but the bigger question would be, "Why do you want so many keywords?"

You need to realize that...
  1. Google doesn't use keywords anymore
  2. Many search engines will throw your site out if you use more than a few keywords (Keyword spamming)
  3. If you don't have content that also matches your keywords, the keywords will most likely be ignored by search engines

I do have content that matches. Much more content than allowed keywords. I have a classified site for dogs. There are over 300 dog breeds listed. My competitors have many more keywods than I am being allowed to post.

I know some say it does not matter, but some say it does and I do not want to take a chance, especially since successful competitors have many more than me. They are showing up in Googles organic search and some of them have a couple hundred keywords. If they are showing up in searches, then it does not seem to be hurting them.

How can I do tests and hardcode them into my layout.tpl. I tried placing them in the code and nothing showed up.

Thanks,
Ryan

Just add additional jeywords before or after the smarty variables in the layout.tpl template.

On a side note, categories are not much in the way of content. Your competitors likely rank high because they have ads and additional info.

Sorry, I know many would knowvwhere to place the keywords, nut not me. I placed them like this and it stopped my site from showing. <meta name="Keywords" content="{$sitekeywords, free ads}" />

Can you show me exactly?

Thanks,
Ryan

thats because the curly brackets mark the start and end of a variable. Place your extra keywords OUTSIDE of the curly brackets.

Thanks, that took care of it. I placed them here: <meta name="Keywords" content="{$sitekeywords}, I PUT THEM HERE" />
