Default Permissions Question

I love the scriptI have on a site that is a search engine monster, however I would like to buy another for a new site. I would like to have 2 sets of categories one that is for paying advertisers and ones that are not. Sort of like an employment website. I would like to resrtict who see's what and in what category. I think this can be done I would just like a confirmation and few ideas before I make the purchase.
Thanks

I understand what you are trying to accomplish but I dont understand what it is you are asking.

You can add "user groups" to your site. Right now everyone who registers goes into one user group but you can add additional ones. Users however will not automatically be placed in these groups so you are going to have to implement some way to differentiate when a user registers if they an an employer or an employee. There is nothing built in to do this so you will have to handle that yourself.

Then you are going to have to modify the various site templates to check the user group of a visitor and conditionally display what you want them to see.

Default Thanks

Essentially on the new site I would want a dual set of categories. Jobseekers being one and joblistings being the other. I only allow jobseekers to view pertinent info on the job listings category side and job seekers to only see pertinant data on the job listings side. I hope I made sense of the question1

Default maybe I got it

I can create 3 different groups, surfers, jobseekers and job listers and only allow the seekers and listers to view one another. can I restrict one group from seeing some parts of another?

You can selectivly display anything in the tamplates based on the group the visitor belongs to. You will simply have to add smarty logic to all the affected templates to check the current viewers user group and display/hide stuff accordingly.

As Larry says but you can probably also use your hosting provider to password protect defined directories as well.
