Default Script creating 404 errors

Hey,

I have the latest installation of 68 classifieds installed and I have the SEO module installed as well. It seems that something is causing the script to create two types of addresses for each listing.

This is the one listed in google's crawl errors (404 pages):

Code:
http://www.publito.com/listing-139-Maison_modulaire_1991.html
and this is the right one:

Code:
http://www.publito.com/listing/139/Maison_modulaire_1991.html
Why is it doing this exactly? A lot of 404 pages is bad for the google rank and I need to try and fix this as soon as possible as I have over 120 crawl errors.

Thanks.

At some point you had your search engine friendly module set up incorrectly and you were creating urls of this form.

And no - 404 is a bonafide error for page not found and if you have made a reasonable 404 page it will do no harm to your site in the eyes of search engines. Search engines work on a page by page basis. Google will drop these pages over time and if you really must you can use google webmaster tools to tell google to drop this url as well.

Okay, I am aware that I can remove these links individually from google webmaster tools but since I have over 200 errors, I do not have 2-3 hours to waste removing them one by one. Also I know that google drops them over time, usually they drop it about once or twice a month but there are always errors coming back. Should I de-activate and re-activate the plugin? Would this solve the issue?

Thanks.

Reactivating the module will not solve the problem but it will allow google et al to index your pages as they should be. One thing you could do is tell google using your robots.txt file to ignore the problem type urls. That is just a case of typing them in and making use of wildcards. Another technique is to use 301 redirects on your old urls using your .htaccess to the new urls. If you do a bit of research you may find you can do that with a few lines in your .htaccess. Again using wildcards etc so you do not need to type them all out.
