Questions about linking

Hope someone out there has answers to my confusion. On my site, I have (classifieds of course), yellow Page directory and adding the Maffo banner system. I have LinkMachine for my reciprocal links. While gathering sites to link to, it occured to me that some of these sites may possibly advertise in the yellow pages and/or banner ads. If so, wouldn't this be double linking? What will this do with the search engines? I have heard they frown upon such things as this. Since I have the yellow pages and the banners, should I not do reciprocal linking? I am very confused about this. Don't want to be black-balled by the search engines. Anyone have any input or suggestions, or is all of this linking O.K?

No having the most links possible is the best way to go. The more incoming links a site has the more page rank it will have.

I believe you may have this confused with duplicate content which is having the same content on more than one site or page.

That may be what I am confusing it with.

I will go ahead with my linking. I just didn't want the search engines thinking I was (what we call in horse shows) padding-the-class.

Just make sure the links to your site is anchor text links from related to your niche sites. The best link is the link that is coming from the middle of some article that has content about your niche.
