Default cheepaz.com Site Design Advice

Hey everyone. I'm not done with this site by a long shot but I need you to tell me what you think of the design layout of the top (header) portion of the site.

This is based off the default template. I'm undecided if I want to go with the current theme or go for something cleaner. What do you think?

Thanks.

Hi,

I think the header is great, its fresh and new.

Things i would personally do:

- make the "Join us" text into a link to the userjoin page

I also have a question about the colours,
Your logo is dark blue
the header goes from (top till bottom) darkish blue - light blue ish - blue greyish.
And the menu is yellow but another yellow as the header. I would make it into the same color.

And i would try to transform the search submit button in something that stands out (maybe even the yellow of the logo with red text or something)

I have a rather high screen resolution and i see a lot of white background at the left and at the right,
And maybe make the header round......

But the impression i got when i went to your site is good!

Dominickz,

Thank you Damiun.

Very good recommendations and you are very right about the colors. My color matching isn't very good at this point. I appreciate the input.

Just wanted to update this thread in case anyone was looking at my site. I've decided to go with a TemplateCodes template. I'm still using the same graphics as before but on their template and I think it looks much better now. Any feedback you may have is welcome.

I like the idea of a paper ripping effect. One thing you might consider though is to stick with one template color (grey or black would look best in my opinion). Your template switcher is not set for some reason anyway. I would deactivate the switcher for the design you seem to be heading towards - life will get easier too not having to do things 8 times.

The other thing is to consider making a repeating banner. The join is not good when you pull the page out on a widescreen. Make an image to repeat (a combination of the main header background image and your strip into one new image. Then just place your text CheepAz.com onto it as a normal logo without a background or use text but put the html in for the colors.

The code in your css file is this

#header {
clear:both;
float:left;
width:100%;
height:100px;
background:url(../images/banner.jpg) repeat-x;
}

The image file to work on is banner.jpg . Not sure I am explaining my self well.

Thanks David.

I'm not sure what you mean by the join is not good when you pull the page out on a widescreen. Is my current design not displaying correctly on a certain size screen?

It looks fine on a 1440x900 as well as 1280x800 screen resolution. Can you elaborate?
I'm not sure I can make the current banner repeat seamlessly.

David,

After a quick trip to screen-resolution.com I saw what you meant about how the banner displayed on a wide screen. I've manipulated the banner so I could repeat it properly and that problem is taken care of now. Thanks for pointing that out!

Good stuff. Looking forward in seeing the final site. It would be interesting to see what ripped looking tabs look like in the sidebar. You would probably need to uses slices in photoshop to do them though.

I'm playing around with your idea of ripped tabs in the accordion. What do you think?

Cool - go for it all over. If it does not work out just go back to the template. worth doing something different.
