Plus the banner at the bottom has moved up, it was below all the body content before, I havent touched that at all.

Something very odd is going on.

The "best" width is an opinion. In my opinion as shared by the majority of web designers worldwide is to develop to a 17" monitor. With an overall resolution width of 1024 minus scroll bar and any padding that you would want on both sides. Generally less than 1000 pixels. The best width for your site is what YOU decide and not what I think.

The posted link to the stats are the exact stats (facts) that I was referring to. The majority of internet users do use a monitor with a resolution higher than 1024 X 768 which is 57%. The fact, I posted was that this also means that 43% don't.

Ive got to be honest I didnt even look at the template width, I just assumed it was fluid (oops).

Am I able to set my width to a fixed 980px and thts all I will need to do? Or will I need to make various changes?

Many Thanks

Gary

First of all http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp I am not going to argue with them (93% are large enough). That is how it is. that is how it is shown on the demo etc. Changing the template requires css skills like any other template from anyone whether it is Templatemonster or TemplateCodes. You will need to scale several images (you will not need photoshop to do that if you have a scaling program) if you wish to reduce its width but why bother when the trend is clear and growing.

No you haven't put in a logo of the same dimensions. You have replaced text from the 68C system with an image of your size and choice.

Start from the beginning. Just load your layout.tpl file again. You adjust the css to take account of your logo size (how does anyone know in advance what logo size you going to choose? the current header is 100px but you have to take account of the height of the tabs etc You need an image of about 80px height to go in without too much adjustment to the header section. You may also need to look at the margin top on your tabs and the margin on your logo to make sure it is going to fit and align in your header without pushing thngs out of alignment.

I think the problem here is you think you are using something like blogger where there is little flexibility at all. You need to be able to read basic css, xhtml and a bit of smarty. You don't need to be an expert but you do need to know a few things.

I actually think you need to make a choice - hire a designer, learn and take your time or give up (I will refund your money for your purchase from us if that is your choice).

In theory, yes. However, I've not worked with Template Codes latest version of this template. I can say that I have developed several sites in the past for clients that have purchased previous versions of the template as well as others that they offer.

If their code is similar to their previous offerings, which I personally found to be a joy to work with (very well laid out and well documented), then you should be able to do this. Again, though as I haven't seen this latest iteration, I can not advise you on this and you're best support would be from them. Bear in mind though, as with any purchased software, modifying others code may or may not be supported officially by the developer.

I am simply trying to make some progress. I have built some very nice sites but this process is so slow.

If you dont want to help withmy questions, no problem.

I dont see why the logo is such an issue. There is plenty of space for it up top, i dont see why it would push the design out of whack.

Am I missing something here? I am not trying to be argumentative. I am simply trying to get the facts straight.

The published statistics as you posted say this:
57% higher resolution than 1024
36% 1024 X 768 resolution

The template width is 1170. 1170 is greater than 1024. Why are you adding 57% plus 36% to give you a total of 93% when the 36% figure has a width less than the template?

"In any given situation there will always be different opinions, however there will only ever be one truth."

Gary, it seems as though you're frustrated and I can understand that. I do believe that Seymourjames is trying to help you here and has offered advice to you that should lead to a resolution of the issues.
