Default Response to users when coupon code is invalid - 03-29-2006, 04:45 PM

First of all Eric, I don't expect you to add this feature anytime soon. I know you have your own problems to worry about right now, and man do I feel for you. But while this was fresh in my mind I wanted to get it written down.

We opened up our newest 68C site last night and had a great response. We had offered up a coupon that expired after 50 uses and it was exhausted today. Trouble is, new customers attempting to use that coupon aren't getting told that it's invalid - they just notice the lack of a discount in the final price.

For now I'll just drop a note about that specific coupon into step 3 of the checkout process, but once we get a few coupons out there it's going to get messy. Refreshing step 3 and adding a warning about why the coupon will not be applied to their order would be ideal.

That's a great response. Would you like to tell us more about this 'promotion' in the 'Site Marketing' forum please?

~ Edit, I deleted the non-working code.... This was replaced with the file in my newest post in this thread.

Thanks John! That's very close to what we need to get this working. So far, here are the results:

- When initially reaching that checkout stage, the featured option is already selected "Yes". I double-checked your code and it looks fine - perhaps $featured is being set already elsewhere?

- After submitting an invalid coupon code, the resulting page (step 3 again) only contains the new error message, the featured option (but it's missing the price), the coupon option, and the previously entered Title. Everything else is missing (bold, hl, desc, price, url, etc). The Continue button is present though and the rest of the page renders ok.

civ,
When you have time, may I again request, "Would you like to tell us more about this 'promotion' in the 'Site Marketing' forum please?"

Maybe that step 3 was hacked up too. Let me get a fresh copy of usercheckout.php and step3.tpl.php and reapply the mod. I'll get on this after my morning coffee
