Installing

In the step by step instructions, it states...

In most circumstances, your host provides you with access to a directory just above your webroot. In other words, when you initially connect to your server with your ftp program, you should see a file named 'www' or 'public_html' (possibly both). Your website files will be uploaded to either the 'www' directory or the 'public_html' directory. Double-click the folder to view its contents.

i am not showing a listing for 'public_html' or 'www'

these are the folders i see listed...

bin
boot
dev
etc
home
initrd
lib
media
mnt
opt
proc
root
sbin
selinux
srv
sys
tmp
usr
var

followed by the following files

.autofsck
.rnd
aquota.group
aquoat.user

to where should i upload 68C? Also, do i upload the ioncube loader before or after.

Thanx

I'm sure this will be the first of many questions to come...

Judging from the folders you see listed I assume this is your own private server? If thats the case the server is fully under your control and when you logged in you log it at the root level of the file system for the server itself.

The 68c directions assume your on a shared host. Where you web space resides on a private server will vary based on the OS used. Your web hosting company likely has a FAQ section which covers basic stuff like where your web files should go etc and that is where I recommend you start.

Judging by your folder structure though if I had to make an educated guess I would look in /var, you likely have a /var/www/html/

You were right, exactly as stated above, is this where i need to upload the files?

I might add that i am looking to have 68 in its own folder, i dont want it to be my 'entire' site.

If you have a /var/www/html that will be the root of your web server. In other words if someone points a browser to your domain and doesnt specify a file or folder then /var/www/html/ is where the web server will look for an index file.

If you would like you classifieds to be in a subfolder, the create that subfolder in /var/www/html, something like /var/www/html/classifieds and place the 68c scripts in classifieds.

Thank you very much, i will give this a try later this afternoon. Also, must i load the ioncube loaders first, and if so, in which folder?

Lhotch 10-17-2006 10:23 AM

If this is your first time installing 68C on the server I recommend you download the full install of it from 68C's site. It will have the ioncube loaders in the zip. You just select all of the files and folders that came out of the zip file and copy them to your server where you want 68C installed. The loaders will be in that batch of files in the /ioncube folder.

Thanks, it will be the first time, and i believe that's the one i have downloaded, i will confirm once i get home. Again, thanx for your speedy reply.:)

Im a little confused...

In the install instructions it states...

1. In the local pane of your FTP program, navigate to the location where you unzipped the classified files. Open the 'upload' folder. This folder contains 14 folders (from 'administration' to 'thumbs') and 30 files (from 'ajax.php' to 'viewmember.php'). Highlight ALL the folders and files, then click-and-drag them to the server pane. It may take a few moments for all the files to transfer.

In the folder where i unzipped the downloaded install file, it shows a folder named - '68classifieds-Developer' not 'upload' folder. When i do enter the '68classifieds-Developer' folder, it shows a total of 16 folders - not 14. And it's 'administrator' to 'uploads'. Do i upoload all that's within the 68classifieds-Developer folder?

Lhotch 10-17-2006 07:15 PM

Yea, grab everything under 68classifieds-Developer and copy that over to the folder you want them in on your server. Make permission changes and then run the install script.

Ok, i am lost once again...

I am running a vps (hosted by dotster), and i am using plesk... i uploaded all as stated previously to the directories which was explained, but when i went to run the install, it just drew a blank, as if i couldn't even see it... this is so frustrating...
