Installing
In the step by step instructions, it states...
In most circumstances, your host provides you with access to a directory just above your webroot. In other words, when you initially connect to your server with your ftp program, you should see a file named 'www' or 'public_html' (possibly both). Your website files will be uploaded to either the 'www' directory or the 'public_html' directory. Double-click the folder to view its contents. i am not showing a listing for 'public_html' or 'www' these are the folders i see listed... bin boot dev etc home initrd lib media mnt opt proc root sbin selinux srv sys tmp usr var followed by the following files .autofsck .rnd aquota.group aquoat.user to where should i upload 68C? Also, do i upload the ioncube loader before or after. Thanx I'm sure this will be the first of many questions to come... |
Judging from the folders you see listed I assume this is your own private server? If thats the case the server is fully under your control and when you logged in you log it at the root level of the file system for the server itself.
The 68c directions assume your on a shared host. Where you web space resides on a private server will vary based on the OS used. Your web hosting company likely has a FAQ section which covers basic stuff like where your web files should go etc and that is where I recommend you start. Judging by your folder structure though if I had to make an educated guess I would look in /var, you likely have a /var/www/html/ |

I might add that i am looking to have 68 in its own folder, i dont want it to be my 'entire' site. |

If you would like you classifieds to be in a subfolder, the create that subfolder in /var/www/html, something like /var/www/html/classifieds and place the 68c scripts in classifieds. |
Thank you very much, i will give this a try later this afternoon. Also, must i load the ioncube loaders first, and if so, in which folder?
|
If this is your first time installing 68C on the server I recommend you download the full install of it from 68C's site. It will have the ioncube loaders in the zip. You just select all of the files and folders that came out of the zip file and copy them to your server where you want 68C installed. The loaders will be in that batch of files in the /ioncube folder.
|
Thanks, it will be the first time, and i believe that's the one i have downloaded, i will confirm once i get home. Again, thanx for your speedy reply.:)
|
Im a little confused...
In the install instructions it states...
1. In the local pane of your FTP program, navigate to the location where you unzipped the classified files. Open the 'upload' folder. This folder contains 14 folders (from 'administration' to 'thumbs') and 30 files (from 'ajax.php' to 'viewmember.php'). Highlight ALL the folders and files, then click-and-drag them to the server pane. It may take a few moments for all the files to transfer. In the folder where i unzipped the downloaded install file, it shows a folder named - '68classifieds-Developer' not 'upload' folder. When i do enter the '68classifieds-Developer' folder, it shows a total of 16 folders - not 14. And it's 'administrator' to 'uploads'. Do i upoload all that's within the 68classifieds-Developer folder? |
Yea, grab everything under 68classifieds-Developer and copy that over to the folder you want them in on your server. Make permission changes and then run the install script.
|
Ok, i am lost once again...
I am running a vps (hosted by dotster), and i am using plesk... i uploaded all as stated previously to the directories which was explained, but when i went to run the install, it just drew a blank, as if i couldn't even see it... this is so frustrating...  |

Ftp to your server: Look for: /home/username/public_html (or /www) IF you see public_html or www that is where you need to upload your 68c files to so they will be accessable by the public. Hope this helps! |

Ok, after doing some searching within my plesk control panel, here is what i found...
- anon ftp - bin - cgi-bin - conf - error docs - httpdocs - httpsdocs - pd - private - statistics - subdomains - web users after searching these folders, i clicked on the folder labeled 'httpdocs', and this is what i found... 4 folders - css - img - picture library - plesk-stat and 2 files - favicon.ico - index.html the file 'index.html' is the default home page for my web address at this time... hopefully this information can help narrow down the issue, again, i do understand that so many variables/factors come in to play, and I appreciate all your efforts in resolving this problem. thanx |
If you currently point a web browser to your domain and it brings up the index.html file thats in /httpdocs then create a subfolder within for you classifieds and copy them there and run the install once again.
looking for help docs, tutorials, quick start guides etc supplied by your host is still the best, easiest and most accurate way to make sure we are doing things properly. |

I would look through your hosts knowledgebase etc http://www.dotster.com/support/ |
Ok, from home i was able to connect to my server with 'cuteftp' updload files with no problems, i am at work now, and because of server restrictions and such, i am unalbe to install and use 'cuteftp'. I was able to install 'smartftp' and run it, but when i try to connect... it throws out this error...
An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine. and it simply won't connect, any ideas what might be causing this to occur? |

Ok, this is where i am at now... within the main server...
list of folder is such: 'bin 'boot 'dev 'etc 'home 'initrd 'lib 'media 'mnt 'opt 'proc 'root 'sbin 'selinux 'srv 'sys 'tmp 'usr 'var i then go within the 'var folder, and it lists: 'cache 'db 'drweb 'empty 'lib 'local 'lock 'log 'named 'nis 'opt 'preserve 'qmail 'run 'spool 'tmp 'www 'yp I then go within the 'www folder, and it lists: 'cgi-bin 'error 'html 'icons 'manual 'usage 'vhosts I then go within the 'vhosts folder, and it lists: '.skel 'chroo 'default 'mydomain.com I then go within the 'mydomain.com folder, and it lists: 'anon_ftp 'bin 'cgi-bin 'conf 'error_docs 'httpdocs 'httpsdocs 'pd 'private 'statistics 'subdomains 'web_users I then go within the 'httpdocs folder and it lists: 'classifieds (which i created as the folder to house all the 68C data) 'css 'forums (which i created to house the vbulletin data) 'img 'picture_library 'plesk-stat also the following files: favicon.ico index.html (this being the file (page) which shows up when i enter the domain address into ie. I have uploaded all the instructed files for the 68c developer to the 'classifieds folder, i have chmod'd them as directed, created a database for the program, but now when i go and try to direct IE to the site, i get a pop up window that states... Some files can harm your computer. If the file information below looks suspicious, or you do not fully trust the source, do not open or save this file. File name: index.php File type: From: mydomain.com Would you like to open the file or save it to your computer. * then states the common options to open, save, cancel, or more info... What to do... sorry in advanced if I am aggrivating yall! This is what i entered into IE address bar: www.mydomain.com/classifieds/install/index.php |
It sounds like your server isnt set up to parse php files. I would contact your host and make sure the server has php running and the web server is set up to parse php files.

Thank you, i will contact them immediate and inquire... this is also happening with my vbulletin install, identical issue. |
Ok, i have since spoke with a person for the vps support and all they could inform me of was that i did have php capabilities on the site, just that i would have to enable it... so, after some looking/reading around, i found the icon on the plesk control panel, and found the following options for services:
Services Running on Server Status Apache ASP support Enabled SSI support Enabled PHP support Enabled - w/ Safe Mode Option off CGI support Enabled mod_perl support Enabled mod_python support Enabled Web statistics Enabled Custom Error Documents Enabled None of them were marked as enabled, so i enabled all of them, but did not enable the safe mode for php. After updating the server with the services, i still get the same error as described previously... it points to the document and opens it under notepad/wordpad and wants to either save it, or open it. Does not see it as a web page, just another document. Also, my other specs are such... mysql 4.1.20-1.RHEL4.1 php 4.3.9-3.15 Now what? |
What version of apache is your server running?
Your host seems to be anything but helpfull. WIth as hosts as prevelent as they are, if this is the kind of service you can expect I would find another. In order to get apache (if thats even the web server thats running) you need to edit its config file httpd.conf. |

Have you restarted the web server since enabling all the features above? If not try that 1st.
I would say your running apache 2.0.52 (httpd 2.0.52-28.ent.centos4). Im not familiar with plesk, your host or the OS your running so once again the best source for info on this would be your host. The easiest thing to do may be to try and place a .htaccess file in your httpdocs folder with an AddType statement and see if that works but depending on the server config it may not be allowed. Double check and make sure there isnt allready a filed called ".htaccess" in the /httpdocs folder and if not create a new empty file. Iside it simply place the following line... AddType application/x-httpd-php .php and then once again see if you can access any of the php scripts. |

:D That worked... thanks alot... time to start playing, even vbulletin is up and running... wooohoooo. Thanks alot for all the time and effort you took to help me in my "hours" of need. I am sure this is only the beginning@ |
