Default Abilities to edit files?

Hi,

I have only had one experience with a purchased script that required IONCUBE loader and I found that simple edits were not possible. I am considering the cheaper designer version of 68 simply because I don't have a lot of money to spend on this project and the classified I am building will be for a local area only. My question is can I disable the "country" in the registration process where it does not show and also narrow the state selection down to just the two states I will be serving?

This may have been ask but I have not found it yet and I have read some of the online manuall last night but not throughly so could have missed it. Sorry if this is a duplicate question. But I am hesitate to purchase another IONCUBE Loader required script because of my previous experience.

It all really depends on what you want to edit.
With 68c most things can be done at the template level (No encoding) but the php files are encoded which means unless you get the developer version you can not change them.

But things like the country and state change you were talking about can be done at template level so that is not a issue.

Don't know what script you may have purchased previously, however the purpose of ioncube is to allow the developer the ability to encrypt the files of their choosing which of course would disallow editing of those chosen files.

68 Classifieds does specifically state what is and is not encrypted with their versions. The Designers and hosted versions have all of the php files encrypted. However, all of the template files and the "Smarty plug-ins" are fully editable. The Developers version does not have the php files encrypted with the exception of the licensing check.

In answer to your specific questions, those items are data that is stored within the database and have nothing to do with the individual files. They are however controlled within the administration. e.g. You can set whether they are visible, searchable, required. In addition, you can edit the contents of the table for those fields. Delete countries you don't want as well as the states that you don't want.

Glad I could help. Hope you choose to go ahead with your purchase of 68 Classifieds. I personally believe it is the best Classifieds script out there at any price.

Could I similarly ask a question.

So the designer version is a basic version so use of anything other than C68's script is pointless and cannot be done, whilst the developer version will allow it to work?

Also does this mean if there is a serious bug in the system we are all at the mercy of C68 to release an update and until this time try and explain to users that they couldnt use the site?

Like the OP I have dealt with other ion cube loaded sites previously and they only insist on the purchase of a license, no fully encoded partially encoded etc. The only bit they have encoded si the license check and for good reason I say.

Please I don't normally moan, but I am now having to rethink my options as I was not fully aware that ALL of the files were encoded but rather just the "MAIN CORE", other than the templates.

Plus with the license from the other thread where constant connection with the server is required (or so it would seem) :s .
I thought I had found a fantastic system for my project and although having to push my budget at the designer cost thought it would be worth it. Now it would seem I am placing my reputation and websites functionality in the hands of another company.

I hope someone can correct me

I think you are worrying about very little. There are thousands of 68C customers using the Designer version. If and when bugs are discovered they are resolved very quickly. I remember one small slip was corrected with a new version issued in 1 hour. I think you a bit stuck to be frank because I know of no other classifieds script which is as reliable or indeed as well supported.

Ok, fair enough. I mean there are loads of supported web applications in the world, many of which have fantastic support and even more which have next to nothing in the way of support.

I guess I have never been lucky enough to find one that encrypts the full monty really and does make me wonder if any of the mods will work at all on a designer license.

I say this because its a bit daft to pay more to be able to modify it and then obviously have to buy the mod. From someone elses angle the question that may arise may be "Why not choose an alternate app that gives you more for the same price or less".

So the mods that are displayed int he mods section, will these work with the designer version or is it a case of maybe only 1 or 2 will and the others require the developer version?

As an example Erics very own user rating....

I am not aware of any third party modules which will not work with the designer version. You would only need the developer version if you wanted to change the core functionality of 68 classifieds. The main reason why we have modules is that it offers a simple and robust way to enhance, add or modify functionality.

Just as an aside - many of us run multiple sites like 8 or 9 classifieds sites. If there were serious issues, I think we would not be doing this. We would have given up after doing our first site. If you PM me I will show you some of them.

Many thanks,

I think id have to register before I could send you a PM and having seen 1 post it needs to be manually approved?

As an aside note myself, ive been looking at the front end demo and back end and whilst I am familiar with the concept of calssifieds listings I wanted to take a slight different angle to make things easier.

What I was hoping to do was to have a link for classifieds and instead of having to choose a category, you get the top 100 say listed which were posted within the last however many days/weeks/months. Featured listings would obviously still be at the top, but one thing im currently fearful of is the constant navigation between categories making it time consuming for people when all they want to see are the latest additions with a quick view.

Is this doable? or has it been done?

Another minor drawback for me is joomla integration, in terms of there being none, and only a module being available to display the latest ads (or featured) on a joomla page. The problem then is how do I integrate the joomla menu into C68 and so on.

The reason I am relatively bogged down on this is that as well as normal ads I intend on running a business directory with business ads, all of which I have in place on joomla already (ok its not live but its ready).
