Default Can 68classifieds be used as a Directory?

I am new to this but want to know if 68classifieds can be used as a Directory? this will be replacing a joomla module which included google maps and other directory features. It looks like there would have to be some serious code hacks for this to be utilised as a directory. Are there online examples?
Thanks
Hans

Many folks are and have used 68 Classifieds as a directory. There are modules available for things such as Google Maps.

Not quite sure what you mean by needing "serious code hacks" as a directory and classifieds have the same basic structure:
Categories/subcategories
listings under those categories
Owner information of those listings
Contact information for those listings

Its pretty straightforward. The main thing is to suppress the price field. You may also want to remove one link (more ads from seller) from an individual listing. Apart from that I can't see a big difference. Structurally it is very similar as Mike points out.

If the code I post doesnt make any sense or work as posted then you should spend more time reading the various manuals and tutorials so it does make sense and you can tweak it to work. A sure fire way to get yourself in trouble is to implement changes you dont have an intimate understanding of. Im happy to help, but I am not here to teach you to code or create your site for you.

byronecho is on a distinguished road
Default Gracias

Thanks! Great response.

As I said I am a novice our IT guy set this up and has now bowed out due to RSI/exhaustion leaving me with the job of getting it up.

We are an independent small community newspaper in Byron Bay, Australia, and the job is quite urgent as we have sold featured listings already as part of a web/print package.

I need to skin this, integrating it with an existing PHP pdf script that is currently the home page:
Echo 1-09-2009 pg01, Local News - mullumbimby high school, wilsons creek, fire, school, students, mullumbimby - 24_1301

I can provide design mock ups

Thankfully the IT guy gave me all access to Cpanel so it shouldn't be a problem

Any one out there up for the job or know someone?
Again, many thanks, great to see an active community here.
