I've seen several people who've said they run it on a windows server. Hopefully they will post here and confirm it.

My understanding is this:
Apache needs to be installed along with all of the php modules required (gd, mysql etc). The ioncube nneds to also be installed through the php.ini.

I know of one person who is running windows xp pro with xampp installer package installed. (http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html)

However in all cases there are email problems - not sure what they are.

And using smtp should alleviate the email problems. Or you could install sendmail I suppose...

So in at this stage it is a bit of a gamble to purchase a license, but i will wait for a few more responses and see what others have to say.

Thanks
Barry

Barry,

Sorry for the delay. I can think of three or four sites running on windows. However there are a few things to keep in mind.
  1. The server still must support everything on this page: http://www.68classifieds.com/features/requirements.php
  2. You would probably need to use the smtp option for sending email.
  3. You would still need to change some permissions on a few folders.
I have ran into a few issues with the last one but your host should be able to do it for you.

Also we offer a 14 day money back quarantee so even if it isn't running you could get a refund.

Hi

Thanks for the response, it is my own server(dedicated server), to be honest,i do not know much about servers, but if all goes to plan and the client likes what i offer, i may be calling on someones services to help but obviously i will pay someone to help set this up but for now one step at a time...

I do have both of these installed:
  • PHP Version 4.1 or above
  • MySQL 3.23 or above (Not configured) Brain has fried, needs to cool down for a few days

Not sure about these:Brain has fried, needs to cool down for a few days
  • Either GD, GD2, or Netpbm for the image upload and resize functions.
  • ionCube Loaders

Thanks for all the help, but there seems to be some affiliation with ECT, so there is no surprises about the level of support.

Regards
Barry

I fail to see why IIS with a php interpreter wouldn't run the application. Does the app utilize Apache specific server calls? I have a win2k Advanced Server running IIS 5 and have multiple PHP applications running on it (phpbb, UCCASS).

Can a Sales rep verify that Apache web server must be installed? or will IIS/php combo do the trick.

That seems like a straight forward smtp issue to me, however I'd like to verify this from a rep.

The SEO mod will require Apache - since it uses an apache command to rewrite urls. Other than that I'll bet you can set it up on windows as you've said. I just have never attempted to install on a windows server nor got the chance to play around with one.
