Question Licensing question about sub-domains.

Hi Eric

You have previously said that;

That's cool but would it make any difference if the I used other domain names to point to the sub-domain installations?

For example.

Main site - myclassifieds.com
subdomain - myclassifieds.com/motors
subdomain - myclassifieds.com/property
subdomain - myclassifieds.com/directory

But then I'd use mymotors.com, myproperty.com and mydirectory.com to point to the relevant subdomains. Is that allowed?

It just feels a little bit like I'm diddling you out of almost $600 if I do this.
I want to play fair and build according to my budget and would appreciate your comments here.

Many thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

The only catch is you must access the administration under the same domain. So if you can access it with yourdomain.com/install2/administration then it will be fine.

For What it's Worth,

A true subdomain is actually a function of the Domain Name System. To have a subdomain, an entry in the Domain Name Server must be entered. Just like when you register a domain, a domain name is entered into the DNS database. A subdomain is also an entry in the same database related to the domain that it is a part of.

i.e.: motors.myclassifieds.com is a subdomain of myclassifieds.com

A folder in the root level of the domain is NOT a subdomain unless it is entered in the DNS system. If that were NOT the case, then when you installed the 68 Classifieds software you would have 16 subdomains in your domain.

i.e.: myclassifieds.com/administration
myclassifieds.com/catimages
myclassifieds.com/Connections
etc., etc., etc.

Sorry, but I couldn't resist replying based on Michaels signature quote:
