I have no experience with 1&1 however I would recommend you contact them and ask if they support everything here: http://www.68classifieds.com/requirements/

I was really pleased to 'hear' you say that Maffo. I had thought that the technically able tended to look down on us mortals using the likes of cPanel but I for one find it makes life so much easier.

Database creation and backup is simple as is maintenance via php MyAdmin which is supplied. I still use my FTP client for moving files around but the cPanel File Manager is much faster for deleting whole directories.

Listen to me, I almost sound like I know what I'm talking about!

I really have to agree. cPanel, Plesk, or any other type of control panel is a life saver. I am not the best server admin and try to avoid messing with the server at all costs.

Haha, Im by no way technically abled when it comes to servers etc. I think the high flyers tend to use the command line to manage their servers. I prefer to use Cpanel, I suppose its the same as using windows or using DOS. Cpanel for me offers everything I need and makes it easy. Other hosting services I have the displeasure of working on are the types such as 1&1, GoDaddy, Streamline.net who have their own systems. A nightmare to find your way about and at the end of the day you only have that particular vendors support. With Cpanel, there is a wealth of info on google.

I've never used Plesk, but cPanel ROCKS!

cPanel is actually the user end of Web Host Manager which is what I use for my web hosting service. It gives you a plethora of features that are very easy to use and maintain. As already mentioned for the end user portion, cPanel gives you the option of allowing myphpadmin, server status and built in documentation for the use of the cPanel.

In my opinion, one of the best features of the cPanel is the integration of what's known as Fantastico. Fantastico allows you to be able to offer automated installation of programs. It can auto install and configure mySQL databases in conjunction with installing all of the files into a directory for the program.

Like Maffo, I've had the displeasure of having to work with several non-cPanel web hosts (for clients on web hosts other than mine) and it's just a mess most of the time. It's for that reason, so many of them switched to my hosting after I did whatever work they hired me for.
