Watermarking pictures

I could be very interested in watermarking images that will be uploaded on my Classifieds.

Browsing the forum, I saw that there is a hack that allow watermarking on 3.x version. Does this runs under 4.x ? If yes, is there an alternative ?

The hack would probably work with v4 although I haven't tested it. The image portion of the script pretty much stayed the same.

One thing that I would caution you about with adding watermarks to your users images is that you are changing your customers images, which is their copyrighted material/work.

I'm not a lawyer or anything, however I think that if nothing else you should include the fact that you are going to do this in your terms and/or to the upload pictures portion of placing an ad. It only takes one lawsuit to ruin your business and reputation.

I do not oblige the users to upload pics and if they do not want their material modified with our watermarking, they can choose to not upload pics ! The way of a classifieds website is basically for selling things, not an art gallery. We can also watch that many and many very important websites watermark the pictures : eBay, etc ...

I can confirm that the hack runs under 4.08

BTW, two remarks :

- I removed the imageColorTransparent line, it gaves disappointed results for all watermark.png pics I tried...

- Watemarking occurs on the "father" uploaded file, not on the resampled picture file ... it also generates a watermak on thumbs. An other unwanted effect is that the watermark is larger or smaller on the resampled picture depending if we upload a 640x480 picture or a 3008x2000.

So my question is to know if there is a way to only watermark the resampled picture wich is fixed side, and not watermark the thumb ...

Sure it runs 4.x

There is only the problems I related above :
- Thumbails are also watermarked
- Depending of the size of the upload picture, the watermark is full size or tiny

You have to remember this is not a built in feature of the script and therefor isnt officially supported. Its a hack I threw together for V3.

Sure.

BTW, the hacks runs nice. It could be interesting to explore if there is a way to only watermark the resized picture ... may be in using the code portion somewhere else ...

No idea to put the script somewhere else, to not watermark thumbs ????
