Default Designer vs developer question

Hi there - I'm wondering whether or not to go with the developer version. I'm not quite clear of the difference in encryption i.e. exactly what's in 'core' files.

Some things I'm likely to want to do:
Tweak the layout of the search page to remove some fields
Stop using 'State' and move to region and city instead
Allow visitors to search with lower and upper price limits

Thanks in advance...
Joseph

PS can users sign up to be notified of new listings that meet their criteria? Would be great if someone could point me at the right page to read about this!

Hi,

Basically with the Developer edition you are free to make almost any changes you would ever need. Where the Designer edition you can only edit the template files.

From what you describe I would recommend the developer edition because of the state / region /city.

Thanks - what about the ability for users to sign up for email alerts e.g. 'send me all listings in this category less than $50'?

This would have to be a modification, that would require the developer edition. You would either have to program it yourself or hire someone to do it.

Your idea isn't a bad one either.. I've always thought it would be nice to be able to subscribe to a newsletter/emailing list based in your category, rather than 1 newsletter for the entire site.
