Hi,

You can choose to download either. Keep in mind v4 is still beta right now.

How hard is it to update say from 3.1 to the finished 4.0v, or say from the 4.0 beta ver. to the finished 4.0v.

Is it fairly straight forward, for some one who has very little code knowledge?

I can not make a decision, I would like to get started, but it may be harder for me to update to a different version?

I was going to order in spring, but still waiting for v 4.0.

Thanks

Upgrading, in its easiest form, entails uploading the new version to your web server and running the install script and checking the "upgrade" radio button during the early steps of install. This will make any needed changes to the database your previous version was using.

The trick however is if you have made a lot of changes to the templates or scripts. If you changed the templates you will want to make sure the template you are currently using is compatable with the new version an for numeric releases starting with the same main number thats usually the case (ie V3.1.4 to 3.1.5). If they are modified and usable you will want to take care when uploading and not upload (ie overwrite) your customized templates.

The templates for V3 however are likely much different than V4 so any changes will need to be manually redone on the V4 scripts if you have V3.

With the new version there is also a list of script files that have changed. If you have a designer edition this is no big deal, if you have the developer edition and have changd script files its a good idea to go down the list of change files and only update the ones that have changed. If you have customized a script file that is going to be replaced by one for the new release you need to manually make the changes to the new script file.

It sounds if it may be best if I waited for the 4.0v, As I am going to make some small changes to the templates (hopefully). Then I may not realise what I need to update/change.

Could it get a bit confusing for a rooky website setup man.

Cheers
