Default email received not through contact page

Hi,

I've received an email from a website in UK asking for a Link to their site. However the email has not come in via the normal Contact Form. It's a normal text only email. I was just wondering how they've got hold of our email address. It doesn't appear anywhere on our site and I haven't published it anywhere either.

Thanks
Mike

Many people will send out emails to common email addresses especially spammers.

Examples:
webmaster@
admin@
support@
sales@

In addition, many web hosting providers will also send email to your default address if there is no such email account recipient, so if someone sends an email to [email protected] it may be redirected to [email protected].

Of course actually reading the raw source headers of the received email will tell you quite a bit as to who sent it and to what address, etc..

Thanks for your reply Mike. I've read the email headers and it is for my admin@ account and it does come from a proper domain and website. I just don't know whether to consider it as Spam or whether it's an authentic offer.

If its unsolicited its probably a scam. If in doubt call them. If they didnt include a phone number then they likely arent too serious.
