YEEEAAAH,

i am also very interested in this:

a bit more info:
Item Description

Auction (BID System) gives you an option to enable Auction for some categories. You choose yourself which category should include this option. During adding new advert (if auction is available for selected category) member decides himself to allow or not auction for the advertisememnt.

All visitors may offer their price for the advertsement. Once the BID is placed it should be confirmed by email.

Ad's owner receives email notification about new BID. If any other member wants to BID the product (advertisement) he may set only higher price than previous one. If the BID is placed and confirmed by email previous BIDder and ad's owner receive email notification.

This module is very useful if your members want to find better price for their product.

Please see my other post,

I think there is a possibility to transform the rating mod in a "place a bid" mod.

If it were that easy it would have been made a long time ago. Truth be told this is much like the membership system that was once in place. People would see that it had a memnbership system, buy the software and then complain when it didnt work as they expected.

When dealing with something as complex as an auction system, everyone who would like that functionality is going to have a different opinion on how it should work, often times they will even be at odd with each other making a one size fits all system difficult at best.

Hi,

Yeah i understand you,
But one, maybe not perfect, auction system, is better than none, right?

And an auction system isnt that complex, i thought.
Just place a new bid, if the bid is higher than the previous, its accepted, if not, its not accepted.
And a small section in the account page with the bids you placed, and an option to remove it.

Depends on who you are. Personally I havent attempted to make one because I dont see there being enough interest to warrant its creation.

Lets put things into perspective a bit. Lets say making a complex module, trouble shooting and testing it takes 40 hours. You normally bill your time out at $50 an hour, that adds up to $2000.

So while you sat and worked at making a module thats $2000 that you DID NOT earn because you were making something that may or may not sell.

Why would someone pass up making a living to create a "maybe not perfect" auction system that likely wont ever pay you back for the time invested? Not to mention all the additional overhead with supporting the code from that point forward.

I think all the developers here want your input on desired features but truth be told if you see its been asked for before and doesnt currently exist, there is likely a reason why. And that reason is because there is simply not enough interest to warrant its creation OR there is no consistency on exactly what is desired or a combination of the 2.

Thats your interpretation of it. But as I said that may not be what others want.

A sure way to get the product you want is to learn to code yourself or hire someone to create the module for you. Keep in mind that just because you pay someone an hourly rate to create something does not give you the license to resell their code unless specifically worded into the agreement you have. You simply have the right to use the custom code.

Ive run an auction site for the past 8 years QuicklySell.com just let me say for my little 2 cents worth that an auction site is a waste of time. You will never compete with Ebay. At one time I had 30k auctions running but trying to get people there that trust you enough to buy from sellers is impossible.

Stick to classifieds! I'm in the process of switching over now since my auction's have dropped to 400 or less.
If you have a website that gets unbelievable traffic then you might get the chance to have some success but dont hold your breath. When Yahoo tried to compete on an auction level with all of there resources and funds you know its a tough market, even they failed. Auction scripts are really complicated, and has a tremendous drag on your server, if your on a shared server don't even consider it.

People in foreign lands might have better success with an auction but I truly doubt it.

As I mentioned this is just my 2 cents worth. I mentioned my auction site to show people that I really have an auction site, not to get people to come there. Just wanted to point this out as it wasnt a cheap attempt at spam.

Hi JoeT

I dont want to start a auction site, i am happy with my classifieds site..
but i want to add a bid module,
So users can place a bid, and the seller gets a nice overview of the value,
and people who are looking for something they will know that paying a price beneath the highest bid will be useless.
