Default Hacking layout of listings etc

Hi
I am sorry if I have added this is in the wrong location and im sure the question has been asked before, so just a direction where the info is and I will be more than happy...

Just after some online help where we can hack the layouts for the listings etc. I know off the layout.tpl file but im wanting to edit the listing page (that lists the products) and the product page (product details).

Thanks for your time

Hi,
That is in showlistings.tpl and viewlisting(2).tpl.
You can use frontpage or dreamweaver if you like.

Please post your 68 Classifieds type (Designer, Developer), version (4.0.x, 4.1.x) and template in your postings asking for help. This information will help you get better answers for your posts. A great place to do this is in your signature!

Thanks for the tip about the signature, that makes so much sense

In regards to the original question, it now makes sense. I was using the deapsea template as a starter to hack and create my own. So if I add the edited .tpl documents in my new template folder, that will be ok?

Thanks again for the answers and tips etc

This is important so forgive me if I state what you may already know.

If you define your own template folder and do not include a specific template file, 68C will look for it in the default template folder and use that. With this in mind, if you wish to customize a template file then it is best to keep the default clean (untarnished) and place this new version in your new template folder. The main reason for doing this is you are then able to test much more effectively. You can always swap back to a clean default template if you think something is a bug or is not working as you intend from your admin control panel.

If you want to define an alternative to say toplistings. Lets call it finelistings, a completely different look say for showing the adverts but keep the original as well, then you can make a copy of toplistings.php and a copy of toplisitings.tpl. Rename them both to finelistings.php and finelistings.tpl. Edit the finelistings.tpl file to what you wish it to do and make sure the correct hook is placed in the finelistings.php file to go and use the finelistings.tpl file. You then have your normal toplistings.php url and a new one finelistings.php available to you.
